World Water Day

On March 22 World Water day is celebrated. This day’s celebration is a bit unconventional, when compared to others, for its main purpose is to discuss the problems that today’s world has with its water supplies. Since global warming entered the news and people first noticed that one day water can run out, the matter has to be constantly overviewed.

Several matters about water

The problems of which we have to be reminded every day are not only about how people spend too much water while they brush their teeth or wash their dishes. Water is used in all sorts of businesses, such as the technological industry or clothing companies. To make their products good enough to go to the market, lots of water is used in the process.

Besides the use of water in industry, people sometimes forget that many communities around the world still don’t have clean water to use in basic daily activities. According to the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), almost 1 billion people don’t have access to safe water supplies.

Where clean water is barely available

When people use street water the consequences go beyond it not being just as clean as its supposed to be. Water which doesn’t go through basic sanitation can spread several sorts of diseases to the community that uses that source of water. In this case, about 2.6 billion people are not included in areas with basic sanitation.

Once the community is left behind by officials who are responsible for poorer areas, they also aren’t educated to act in a hygienic way to preserve water resources. When waste water is sent to an inappropriate destination, other surface waters and ecosystems can be harmed by the water that is contaminated.
