Wiz Khalifa’s Rolling Papers

All sorts of artists manage to get a label contract by making success on an independent basis. The most recent Atlantic Records bet on a rising star was on the hip-hop rapper Wiz Khalifa. The record produced by the label is called Rolling Papers, to be launched on March 29.

Downfall to pop music

Reviews of the CD say that Atlantic Records has this on-going tradition of transforming musicians with their own traits to regular pop stars. For some, the album Rolling Papers is a hip-hop music selection for people who are not that fond of hip-hop music.

On the other hand, Wiz Khalil’s debut is about to compete with Britney Spears’ new album for the first place of the top music charts. His single “Yellow and Black” has already made its way to the top, managing to get a spot in Rolling Stone and Vibe magazines.

Expectations on both sides

In an interview to an online newspaper, Khalifa said “I’m really excited to release the record and just get it out there. Of course, there’s a little bit of nervousness ’cause it’s my first major label release, but I’m really happy for myself and for the fans as well. We’ve all worked really hard to get to this point”.

As Khalifa already has a large fan base, the expectation is to keep them and conquer more with the latest release. Besides that, Khalifa acknowledges not only his fans but also people who just want to see him doing well.
