USA dead exchange student

After 10 days missing, the body of an USA exchange student was found in a Madrid river, Spain. The body was found on Tuesday and he was first noticed to be missing after going out for a night in town, according to a police officer. The student was from California and the cause of death still hasn’t been determined.

The student from San Diego State University, Austin Bice, was majoring in international business. An autopsy will be made on Tuesday or Wednesday and the information will be sent to the victim’s family and to a Spanish investigation magistrate.

His roommates first reported him missing when he never came back after a night out. To help in the research, Austin’s father, Larry Bice, went to Spain to look for his son. Father and son had recently climbed together Mt. Whitney in California. Larry described his son as “physically fit and tall –six-foot-four”. Austin had been in Spain since January and studied at Carlos III University.

The student’s body was found in the Manzanares River after a draining session of a 500-yard section. It is known for being a slow-moving waterway and shallow, but has several locks. The Manzares runs through western Madrid. The nightclub where he was last seen, early on Feb. 26th, is quite close to the river. Once Austin was considered missing, the students of the University spread posters of him around town.

A friend of Austin, Maria Garcia, said that before he left to the nightclub he was at a house-party drinking. A doorman advised him to wait until he felt better before walking home. On his blog, Austin posted several comments about his life in Spain, such as “Before I came to Spain, I was told by all of my advisers that I should try to keep calm at parties and not try to be the typical loud and drunk American”.
