The Masters 2011 Favorites to Win
When the subject of conversation is golf, Tiger Woods is usually one of the hot topics. But as new players start to attract the attention to them, Woods is slowly losing his game and his place as number one favorite golf player. That has been recently proven at the Masters 2011 Golf Tournament, where Phil Mickelson got to show his own golfing abilities.
The favorites’ private competition
It has been about a decade since another player is the favorite and not Tiger Woods. The tradition was supposed to keep going until a few days ago, when Mickelson managed to pass the scores after winning the Shell Houston Open. Mickelson already has two Masters Titles and from five years to now he has acquired two fifth-places at Augusta.
On the other hand, Woods has a total of five rewards at the same Augusta: two seconds, a third, a fourth, and a sixth-place. In addition, Woods has already earned the green jacket four times during the total time of his career. Even though he might not be as popular as before, golf fans still prefer to wait and see what his game can show.
About the Masters 2011
Along Woods and Mickelson, the Masters championship has other 91 professional players and six amateurs. All together, the players represent 22 different nations. Each golf game is divided by groups, in which three players compete with each other. The original number of groups is 33.
The tournament started on Monday, April 4th, and goes until Sunday, April 10th. The first three days are considered practice rounds, so the championship only really starts with the competition on Round I, set for April 7th. The Masters has a total of three rounds and a Final Round, to be disputed by the finalists.
