St. Patrick’s Day

Known throughout the world as a day of festivities, this year’s St. Patrick’s Day was also an opportunity to the newly elected Irish Prime Minister, Enda Kenny, reassure his country’s business capacity with the US. Besides the diplomatic responsibilities, the Irish party still instigates its culture on other nations.

Ireland’s crisis

Travelling to the US on St. Patrick’s Day is a tradition established by Irish leaders to maintain contact with the American leaders and try to advance on a peace agreement for Northern Ireland. This first public international appearance was Prime Minister Kenny’s debut on international matters

After taking over a fragile country, as a consequence from the economical crisis, the Prime Minister Kenny wants to make sure the US will keep their companies on Irish land. To get back on its feet, Ireland needs to keep partners in order to regain its economic stability and manage to payback the EU-IMF

St. Patrick’s festivities

One of the most popular Irish traits is the gastronomical culture. A classic is the Corned Beef and Cabbage dish, which is called like that because of the ‘corns’ of salt that are used on the meat while it slowly cooks. Some believe that the main ingredient in this dish is bacon, but the most known recipe uses pork.

The date celebrates St. Patrick (Ireland’s patron saint) and is considered a national holiday at the country. People that usually participate in Irish related events often wear green and have Irish drinks. Bars and restaurants which promote a St. Patrick’s special event also decorate the place in green and hire musicians to play Irish music.
