Skyler Grey adopts stage name and performs with Eminem and Dr. Dre
Starting off with one’s original name might not be as powerful as an artistic identity. Singer Skyler Grey, who originally began her career as boring Holly Brook, says that other musicians are responsible for her come back in the music industry. By having the opportunity of working together with names such as Eminem and Dr. Dre, Grey managed to gather the attention she needed in order to keep moving forward.
Successful Partnership
As for disappearing from the spotlights at a certain phase of her career, Greay revealed that “things kind of fell apart with my career and personal life, so I just retreated up in the woods in Oregon just to get away from L.A. and the whole music industry. I felt like I lost touch with who I was as a person, as an artist.”
While still under the name of Holly Brook, Grey managed to launch one album and another EP. Even back then, Grey already worked along other stronger names, like the band Linkin Park. However, that was not enough for guaranteeing the sort of visibility she has today. As a matter of fact, Grey almost missed the opportunity, as Dr. Dre considered others to fill her spot as contributor to the album “I Need a Doctor”.
International Visibility
As an imminent consequence to the fact that she conquered some popularity after she changed her stage name, Grey was invited to perform a song in honor of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. During a visit to the USA, the Dalai Lama was in Washington D.C. and spared some time to appear publicly in front of the National Mall.
The Dalai Lama talked about peace, hope and harmony. While speaking, His Holiness reinforced that he does not like to prepare speeches when participating in public events, as he believes it is better to talk naturally. In his dedication, Grey sang “I’m Coming Home”, which combines with the occasion as the Dalai Lama said that he considers going back to Tibet.
