Sandusky arrested on saturday after grand jury announced decision
The former Penn State football coach, Jerry Sandusky, was arrested last Saturday (05) on the accusation of having allegedly molested eight boys he met through The Second Mile, the charity program he started. The recommendation that guarantees Sandusky will face charges on child sex abuse was given by a grand jury investigation, which stated that evidence has been identified.
Case Development
Together with Sandusky, the grand jury also concluded that Penn State Athletic Director Tim Curley and Gary Schultz, the university’s interim senior vice president for finance and business, also need to face charges. The decision was announced on the same Saturday. The evidence against Curley and Schultz is that both of them lied during a testimony when talking about information received over Sandusky being involved in sexual abuse.
The charges against Sandusky came after an investigation led by state Attorney General’s Office, which lasted two years, and ended up discovering that a Clinton County boy was molested by the former Penn State coach. Having been a guest at Sandusky’s College Township, the grand jury interpreted that the boy was manipulated by Sandusky into performing sexual activities.
Charges Presented
According to the Centre Daily, the charges against Sandusky are: seven felony counts of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, one felony count of aggravated indecent assault, eight counts of unlawful contact with a minor and felony, eight counts of endangering the welfare of a child, eight counts of corruption of minors, seven counts of indecent assault and one count of attempted indecent assault.
The crimes allegedly happened between 1994 and 2008 and would have taken place in the showers of Penn State, at Sandusky’s home, in a local hotel and during Penn State’s games. The grand jury also had the testimony of a graduate assistant who confirmed having seen Sandusky having sex with a 10-year-old boy in one of the showers at Penn State.
