Sacramento Kings Might Change Cities
With sports seasons going on for quite a while, some of them already eliminated certain teams on a definite perspective. One that has recently received waves of goodbyes from everlasting fans is the Sacramento Kings, as they lost a match (116-108) on Wednesday night for the LA Lakers. Besides the fact that the Kings are out of the championship, another possibility that surrounds supporters is moving the team to Aneheim.
Affectionate demonstrations from fans
As a way to demonstrate love and respect for the team, many of the fans that were at the game painted themselves with full body paint, made signs which read “We Love You!” and “Take My Life But Not My Kings” and strong roars once the team went into court. Patrick Sullivan, a fan who was at the game said “It feels like old times. The atmosphere would be so awesome if the reason behind it wasn’t so sad.”
Besides fans’ demonstrations of affection on the day of the game, some seized the opportunity to relive memories kept from the team’s old times. One episode was with the former favorite Bobby Jackson, and was told by the couple Brian and Chris Martin. “A woman leaned over and just smiled and then kissed Bobby on top of his head. That was just so adorable,” said Chris.
The last hope
Even though the possibility of moving the team is getting more and more real each day, the confirmation still has to be made by the NBA Board of Governors. Both cities, Sacramento and Aneheim, have their own points of views and preferences on this matter. But a known fact is that no other permission to relocate a team has been denied in 27 years.
Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson, who is himself a former NBA All-Star, reassures that he will attend the meeting with Aneheim officials to plead Sacramento’s case. “I’ve been in a lot of games where there’s not much time on the clock, and somehow we managed to come away with a win. So it’s not over yet,” said Johnson.
