Philadelphia Flower Show

This year, the largest indoor flower exhibition starts on Sunday, 6, and goes until the next Sunday, 13. The Philadelphia International Flower Show takes place in Paris and the funds from the tickets sales will help to reach the goal of planting one million trees in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware.

Besides the importance of the event for its cultural purposes, the economic benefits go beyond the eight days of the PHS. A study made by the audit, tax and advisory firm KPMG LLP shows how $61 million was generated for the Great Philadelphia region. Apart from that, 637 full-time jobs are available at the time of the event, $8 million in city, state and federal tex revenue and increase of 25,000 in hotel room nights.

The Executive Director of the Greater Philadelphia Hotel Association, Ed Grose, said how the PHS contributes to the community: “The Flower Show has been great for our city for many years. It brings in visitors from the suburbs and out of town, and they’re the type of guests who are more likely to visit a museum and other attractions and have dinner while they’re in town”.

The attractions include gardening, food & wine, garden tea, entertainment, activities for the family, tours around town and a preview party. For those who are interested in gardening events, free daily lectures and presentations will be offered to the public. The “Greensource” program will also take place with designers and panel discussion.

Those who want to enjoy the day with their families can take toddlers to the Family Lounge, where they can create craft projects, play with toys, present a puppet show or watch movies. Girl scouts who have already finished the PHS program “Planting Seeds, Growing Lives: Grow, Explore, Lead” can be honored during the Girl Scout Day ceremony.
