The television studios are always attracting attention because of new contracts and programs. The Public Broadcasting System (PBS) has announced that over the following weeks the American Experience will present two documentaries: Stonewall Uprising and OUT in America. Besides the entertainment, PBS has announced to hire and fire personnel.

Documentary exhibitions

Stonewall Uprising tells the story of the LGBT during 1969, when the gay community from New York had to struggle against the police after a LGBT bar was closed down. This fact was the main reason for riots take place at that time, so, the documentary tries to show how the gay community used to live before and after this episode.

On the other hand, OUT in America makes a compilation of several statements by celebrities and well-known gay activists that had already come out of the closet. Because there was very little material on homosexual protests, some of the images that are in Stonewall were also used for OUT in America.

Changes on the frame work

As PBS gets inflicted by changes at the US House and Senate, which recently had Republican and Tea Party victories, a new program was included. Journalist Ann Coulter, a conservative republican, just got herself the show Ann Coulter’s Far Out Journey. A flaring sign of what kind of changes PBS will go through is that Coulter already started an ‘investigation’ on statements about homosexuality and critics on Bush’s government.

Another reason for her hiring was that the commentator Juan Williams got fired from the National Public Radio (NPR). Also, Republicans were trying to get Coulter to replace David Brooks, who is a columnist for the NYT and analyst at PBS, together with Mark Shields, who already works at PBS. A spokeswoman for the company said “First, Mr. Shields is not a liberal and a Democratic operative. He’s a PBS analyst. Second, Mr. Brooks creases his pants. Enough said.”
