Patti LaBelle accused of physical assault

At the same time celebrities serve as a positive role models for their fans and admirers, the bad attitudes contribute in sending the wrong messages to the public. Considered R&B diva singer, Patti LaBelle is being accused of involvement in a fist fight concerning her body guards while on duty. The reason for the violence would be that a military cadet was standing too close to her luggage at an airport.

Tragic Incident

The lawsuit was filed by Richard King, who is 23 years old. According to him, he cannot remember what happened during the assault, as he passed out because of the attacks that were made against him. However, once he watched the surveillance tapes from the Bush International Airport, he could see that the body guards hit him for no reason and caused a concussion in his head after smashing it against a pillar of concrete.

When the police arrived, instead of providing immediate support to the victim, they only took the aggressors’ statements. What is considered even worse for King’s attorney, John Raley, is that the policemen stopped to get autographs and take pictures with LaBelle over King’s blood. According to Raley, “Police arrived on scene shortly after. For reasons known only to them, they took statements only from attackers and a taxi dispatcher who, as you can see in the video, is clearly a Patti LaBelle fan.”

Other Version To The Story

While Raley is going for all he can get with the lawsuit, such as criminal charges and civil rights, LaBelle’s side of the story says that the attack was in response for King’s behavior towards them. The bodyguards said that he appeared to be intoxicated, and the limo driver said that he received a punch in the face.

Because of the episode, King was suspended from his activities with the military service. According to his lawyer, “He is suspended from West Point temporarily for a year or a year and half. He will have to serve in active duty as an enlisted man and he may well be deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan. If he makes it through his tour of duty he is going to be permitted to reapply to West Point and hopefully graduate and become an army officer.”
