Osama Bin Laden Dead After Almost 10 Years Of Pursuit

After the terrorist attack that killed thousands of people in the Twin Towers on 9/11, one of the most wanted criminals responsible for the attacks was Osama Bin Laden. The Arab Al-Qaeda leader was officially announced to be dead after American intelligence service discovered his whereabouts to be in Pakistan, where the search operation was put into practice and got authorization to attack Bin Laden.

Different reactions

The news of Bin Laden’s death revived several subjects which now have to be discussed. For starters, other nations in the Arab world do not demonstrate the same relief as the rest of the world. An example is the head of the Hamas administration, Ismail Haniyeh, who said “We condemn the assassination and the killing of an Arab holy warrior. We regard this as a continuation of the American policy based on oppression and the shedding of Muslim and Arab blood.”

Even though one of the most dreadful terrorist was taken down, others that share his same ideals might seek for revenge or continue pursuing the same aims as Bin Laden’s. On the other hand, the spokesman for the Palestinian Authority (PA), Ghassan Khatib, said “Getting rid of Bin Laden is good for the cause of peace worldwide but what counts is to overcome the discourse and the methods — the violent methods — that were created and encouraged by Bin Laden and others in the world.”

Obama’s role

The official announcement on Bin Laden’s death was made by the American president Barack Obama at 11:30p.m. Obama said that the plan to capture Bin Laden was already in place for a few months before the actual attack, considering that the search for his whereabouts was priority since 9/11. The president seized the moment to share his grief for the families who lost their loved ones in the attack and to those who carry war wounds, either physical or not.

Now, another point that is already being discussed is how Bin Laden’s capture can guarantee Obama’s reelection for the presidency. Even though the mission to capture Bin Laden has been on the government’s hands before Bush’s term, it was Obama who gave the final order to attack Bin Laden and it was he who confirmed to the world that the most wanted terrorist was captured.
