Oklahoma City bombing is remembered after 15 years

At the same time April is the month of Easter celebrations and Christian values, the USA always remembers the several terrorist attacks that happened in the country during this month. Two of them took place on April 19, one of the FBI’s sieges of the Waco compound and the one at Oklahoma City. A third one happened on April 20, which was the famous Columbine School shooting and the fourth, was The Virginia Tech massacre.

Victims of the Oklahoma City Bombing

The bombing that happened in Oklahoma City aimed at a federal building. The attack killed 168 people, which left both government and American citizens aware that domestic terrorism was not far away from the country’s reality. At that time, the bombing projected by Timothy McVeigh was the worst terrorist attack that had happened in the country.

Today, survivors from the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building, relatives of the victims, and anyone else involved directly or just sympathetic and compassionate amongst the others, gathered at the Oklahoma City National Memorial Museum to pay honors for those who suffered 16 years ago during the violent episode.

Providences After Oklahoma City Bombing

As at that time the policy against terrorist attacks was not prepared for that kind of situation, the Oklahoma City bombing was the beginning of a different perspective for this sort of security measure. Considering that not only the event of April haunted American society, as the World Trade Center attacks happened even before, it was all a sequence of deadly situations that had the American government change their way of dealing with these situations.

Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano went all the way to Oklahoma to take part in the event. About what happened and measures taken, Napolitano said “Adversaries continue to look for ways to exploit our openness and to take innocent lives. We can resolve even a successful attack will not defeat our way of life. We can resolve that the Oklahoma standard becomes the national standard.”
