Neverland Premieres on SyFy with Charlie Rowe

A prequel to the famous J.M. Barrie’s Peter Pan, which inspired the Walt Disney studios to produce the classic film, aired this Sunday (4) on SyFy and also on this Monday (5) on the same channel. Instead of what is usually portrayed on the movies, this television production shows what came before Captain Hook lost his hand and how Peter Pan learned to fly.

Different Context

The boy that will give life to the most famous character is Charlie Rowe, who also featured ‘The Golden Compass’ and some British films. Alongside him, Rhys Ifans interprets James Hook, while Keira Knightley gives her voice to the adorable Tinker Bell. Anna Friel can be seen as Captain Elizabeth Bonny, and the Oscar nominee Bob Hoskins as Smee, and Raoul Trujillo.

On this version of the tale, Peter (Rowe), together with his pickpockets friends, end up being transported to the place known as Neverland once they snatch a magical orb, considering that their mentor Jimmy Hook (Ifans) was the one who lead them into doing that. As Peter and his crew discover this new world by trying to save it from enemies, the boys figure out that it might be more interesting to stay where they found a new home than grow old anywhere else.

The Actor’s Perspective

At the age of 15, Rowe said that the opportunity to film something such as this prequel is what he always dreamed he would have the chance to do. “I was incredibly gob smacked when I got the call that they wanted me for Peter Pan. I feel really lucky to have got this iconic part. Every single boy wants to be Peter when they are five or seven years old. I just hope I’ve done it justice,” said Rowe.

As it is expected with any other production based on an already known story, Rowe said that he hopes people do not make too many comparisons, as the script is very different from the original story. In Rowe’s opinion, the SyFy version is much darker and more intense, while the films that already exist usually have a different perspective.
