The sports season is on for fans cheering over their favorite teams. The latest modality to have an opening day is the Major League Baseball (MLB), which is being held in St. Louis. As not all teams managed to play on the first day of the championship, the Opening Day takes more time than one day. At least this allows the expectations with the beginning of a new tournament last a little bit longer.

The first day

Some results are already available for baseball fans. A fact is that the Reds won the match against the Milwaukee Brewers by a 7-6 final score. One of the most featured players of this season is Ramon Hernandez, who scored a three-run home run. After the victory, Hernandez said “To me, it’s amazing. This is one of the best opening days I’ve ever had in my career. I’m so happy that I helped my team and my team won a ballgame.”

The total of tickets sold for the first day came up to 42,398 people who warmed up the spirits at Great American Ball Park. Before Hernandez got in the game, the Reds were 0-9 with runners and left 10 on base. Until now, the only occasion in which the Reds had a walk-off homer on Opening Day was in 2005, against the Mets.

Second strike

The game schedule for the second Opening Day has the following matches: Astros x Phillies; Pirates x Cubs; White Sox x Indians; Red Sox x Rangers; D-backs x Rockies; Twins x Blue Jays; Orioles x Rays; Mets x Marlins; and Mariners x Athletics. The repeats matches are: Angels x Royals and Giants x Dodgers.

As the San Francisco Giants were the last champions of the American League (AL), the expectations are high over the team. Who lost at the time were the Texas Rangers, and now the Rangers president, Nolan Ryan, is more confident “Last year I felt we were capable of winning the division, and I think we’re in a better position this year. So our expectation is to win it.”
