Miss America 2011 plans to become a politician

Participating in a beauty pageant is not as easy as it might seem. The girls who want to earn the title of Miss America have to go through serious training and study hard, as they will be the new role model to other young girls who wish to one day follow the same steps. To get away of the vanity that is usually attached with the image of a Miss, the candidates have to reach different requirements established by the organizers.

Winner’s Profile

The edition Miss America 2011 already has its winner. The 17-year-old Teresa Scanlan was chosen among the 52 contestants to represent women. The official Miss America has the dream of attending a law school to become a judge and after follow the politician career. The institution she attends as a high school student is Scottsbluff High School.

As each candidate has to present a platform issue, Scanlan chose to talk about eating disorders. The name of her campaign is Eating Disorders: A Generation at Risk. Especially inside the profession of modeling and keeping yourself always beautiful, many girls end up going down the road that leads to bulimia and anorexia.

Traditional Words

About 75 years ago, Atlantic City Chamber of Commerce President Frederick Hickman said “Miss America represents the highest ideals. She is a real combination of beauty, grace, and intelligence, artistic and refined. She is a type which the American Girl might well emulate.” Until today those words are remembered at each edition of the competition.

During the night which granted Scanlan the victory, she played Whitewater Chopped Sticks on the piano while wearing a black-doted bikini. Besides the plain fact of winning, the young girl is the first resident from Cornhusker State to ever win the title of Miss America. Now, she has to wait until she can begin college to keep making her dreams come true.
