Mindy McCready might not return to Florida with her son

Country singer Mindy McCready was informed by the Florida Department of Children and Families that she has to take her 5-year-old son back to Florida in order to fulfill an order sent by a judge, considering that she does not have her son’s custody and a missing person’s report was filed after she took the boy away from her father’s home. McCready’s mother is the legal guardian of the singer’s son.

Custody Battle

According to the country singer, she cannot make it to Florida by the time established by the judge – at 5 p.m. – because she is seven months pregnant with twins. If she decides not to return as ordered, she is running the risk of being arrested. McCready gave an interview to the Associated Press and told the long-lasting story about the battle she has been having with her own mother over the boy’s – Zander – custody.

The reason why McCready took her son away from her father’s house and kept him with her is because she accuses her mother of having abused of the boy. On the belief that he was going through such situation, McCready spent the last week with Zander. “I’m a mom first. No matter what happens, I’m going to protect my kid. If I have to go to jail, so be it,” said McCready.

Rocky Past

The Florida department discovered on Tuesday that the boy was not at his grandfather’s home, and that is when the court order was issued. Up to know, McCready can return her son voluntarily. About traveling with her son, McCready said that she believed the case would be transferred to Tennessee and, because of that, she did not believe that there could be any problems.

McCready’s problems began after she managed to earn her one and only hit song in 1996 and since then her life was all about drug abuse, partying and suicide attempts. At one point she had to be hospitalized after her brother, Timothy, found her in her own blood from cutting her wrists and taking several pills, which later was considered a suicide attempt.
