LCD Soundsystem Says Goodbye to Fans
When a new musical group gets started it can either disappear in a short period of time, or be successful and keep going until it is worth it. When the second option happens, the day a band ends is almost as painful as the death of a friend. To the most fanatic fans, it can be the same. A band that made its last performance this year is LCD Soundsystem, which now leaves a gap in the playlist.
The Decision to Move On
The group announced their last show on February 5th, through their official website. On the post it said “LCD Soundsystem are playing Madison Square Garden on April 2nd, and it will be our last show ever. We are retiring from the game. Gettin’ out. Movin’ on. But for just one more night, we will be playing with friends and family for nearly 3 hours–playing stuff we’ve never played before and going out with a bang. And we’d like you to be there.”
What the band did not know at the time was that the show they scheduled would be sold out in an amazingly short period of time. The tickets were finished in just 15 seconds, as impossible as that might seem. After that happened, the band just could not ignore that more people wanted to go to the final concert. So, other four nights were available at Terminal 5.
The Band’s History
LCD Soundsystem’s first activity as a band was with their debut single Losing My Edge. The main figure and lead vocal is James Murphy, who recruited the other members of the band. Once together, the group produced three CDs: LCD Soundsystem (2005), Sound of Silver (2007) and This is Happening (2010).
Next to Murphy, the other band players are David Scott Stone, Tyler Pope, Nancy Whang, Gavin Russom, Pat Mahoney and Matt Thornley. Besides the ones who played now on the last tour, musicians who once were part of the group are Al Doyle, Phil Skarich and Phil Mossman. Some of them also play with other bands, such as Hot Chip and !!!.
