Lance Armstrong accused of doping
People who get in the sports competition’s world are always under one kind of inspection: the anti-doping. As each sport demands different kinds of performance for the athletes, some drugs are specific for each modality. On the other hand, there are others that work on a more general way, such as the well-known EPO, which works as a blood booster.
Armstrong’s Teammate Is Main Accuser
One of the most famous athletes under investigation on accusations of having used EPO before winning competitions is Lance Armstrong. The information came from a former cyclist who worked with Armstrong, Tyler Hamilton. Besides accusing Armstrong of doping, Hamilton admitted have done the same.
When Hamilton gave the information on Armstrong, he said “I saw (EPO) in his refrigerator. … I saw him inject it more than one time, like we all did. Like I did, many, many times.” Before this accusation, Armstrong had already been under investigation for the same problem. Now, Hamilton makes part of the team who is investigating Armstrong’s case.
Reasons To Chose The Doping
Another problem beyond the simple fact of using steroids is that Armstrong would have used it before winning his first race on Tour de France. This first victory was in 1999, but, according to Hamilton, Armstrong also used EPO while preparing for the 2000 and 2001 editions.
In order to try and explain why cyclists had to go for the doping resource, another former Armstrong colleague, Frankie Andreau, said “Training alone wasn’t doing it and I think that’s how…many of the other riders during that era felt, I mean, you kind of didn’t have a choice.” Also, Andreau said that he began doping when he noticed that lesser cyclists than him where getting better positions in the races.
