Kirk Douglas Oscars
While the huge crowd of celebrities which was invited to be part of another edition of the Oscars nominations and millions of viewers around the globe watched the cerimony, the highly rated actor Kirk Douglas made an especial appearance during the event. His part in this production was as presenter of the winner for the category Actress in a Supporting Role. The winner was Melissa Leo for her part in the film The Fighter.
As his presence at the festivity was a surprise, Kirk took his time to get to the point and announce the winner. Due to his age (94 years old), he had to enter the stage with his cane and hand it over to his assistent in order to read the name awaited by the crowd. Anne Hathaway, hostess of this edition, seized the moment to wowe her special guest.
The Actress in a Supporting Role category was one of the few which actually still had some sort of suspense about whose name would be spelled out. Probably because of that, Kirk made the situation even more tense as he stalled as much as one possibly could. When the winner Melissa Leo went to the stage receive the honour, Kirk said: “You are more beautiful than you were in The Fighter”.
But, as not everything could go perfectly, Melissa slipped during her thank-you speech as she got bleeped for saying the f-word. Of course the actress has already apologized for not controlling her vocabulary on the most exciting ocasion.
Besides have been an actor himself, Kirk Douglas is also the father of Michael Douglas. Kirk himself was awarded three Oscars during his career: one in 1949 for the film Champion, another one in 1952 for the movie Beautiful and the last prize in 1956 for the production Lust for Life.
