IPL 2011 Season Is Ready To Go
The 2011 Indian Premier League (IPL) season has been arranged to take place during the days of April 8th until May 28th, when the final match will happen. This championship had its first season on April of 2008 and since then has been organized on an annual basis. Now, as it happens with every new sports season, fans are waiting to see if their favorites will be champions and which surprises each team has prepared.
Official IPL teams
The IPL has a total of ten teams participating on the championship, which are: Bangalore Royal Challengers; Kings XI Punjab; Chennai Super Kings; Kolkata Knight Riders; Deccan Chargers; Mumbai Indians; Delhi Daredevils; Rajasthan Royals; Sahara Pune Warriors; Kochi IPL.
This tournament was created by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Even though the teams are from India, the players are gathered from all around the world. The winners of the 2010 IPL season were the Chennai Super Kings. In 2009, the Deccan Chargers got the title and in 2008 it was the Rajasthan Royals.
Expectations on the 2011 IPL season
For this season, what is already known is that the international captains Kumar Sangakkara, Mahela Jayawardena and Daniel Vettori will take the lead of the IPL’s fourth season. As they have never done this before with IPL teams, the expectations are that the captains will bring a new spirit to the field. Next to the new captains, some of the previous ones are still playing on the teams, while others are still captains.
On Vettori’s case, he is taking over the command of the Royal Challengers Bangalore and is used to leading the New Zealand’s. About the change of teams, Vettori said “Captaining Royal Challengers is quite different from captaining New Zealand. In the New Zealand team, the players are grown up whereas here there are a lot of young players, with chances of different dynamics. It is an exciting opportunity for a short time. We have a good unit with us and we are looking forward to a strong campaign.”
