Iggy Pop Invited For Surprise Performance On American Idol

One of the first artists to represent the rock & roll music style was Iggy Pop. At that time, he, together with the Sex Pistols, New York Dolls, Patti Smith, and plenty of other names, were just writing and performing songs that they felt like doing. That was the main part of the spirit: do what you want. Today, few of them are still alive, but Iggy Pop is one of those. Instead of performing at underground pubs, Iggy’s latest appearance was on American Idol.

Unexpected visitor

Even though the TV program is all about launching new musical idols, considering that even the ones who loose end up with some sort of fame and popularity, through the show the producers invite guests to make surprise performances. On this case, Iggy Pop definitely was a really big surprise. On the show, Iggy performed the song Real Wild Child.

The rock & roller is today 64 years old. His age was not a problem for him to feel good enough about his abs and stay the entire time without his tee-shirt. As a matter of fact, it is quite impressing to see how one of the first punks, who used all sorts of drugs, managed to keep himself in such good shape.

Young days

Iggy Pop was the kind of punk that made the impressive concerts back in the old days. He is known for rolling over on broken glass during a live performance, shaving off his eyebrows and having glitter going in his eyes (because that actually was trendy in the 70s/80s), the first stage dive ever made, vomiting on stage and pulling his pants down in front of the public.

The musician is most famous for his band The Stooges, which also had Scott Asheton, Steve Mackey, Mike Watt and James Williamson. After the band split up, Iggy continued his musical career with David Bowie, who was one of the first to believe in his talent and help him get more visibility and success. Recently, The Stooges made a reunion and performed together in several festivals.
