Ice Cream Sundae Turns Into a Google Doodle

On most days of each year something is being celebrated. It can be either a day to honor a family member, like Mother’s or Father’s Day, or the date on which a product was officially patented. Usually, these products are the ones which have influenced people’s lives until today, or that influenced the creation of others.

The origin of the ice-cream sundae

A company that always honors special dates is Google. As the main service of the company is the search website, their way of demonstrating respect is by creating an original Google Doodle for the search homepage. So when the day comes to celebrate something different, a Google Doodle will show up in the place of the original logo.

The latest Google Doodle was an ice-cream sundae picture. The reason is the 119th anniversary of the first sundae ever registered. Of course, the registration is according to one of the possible options, which recognizes Ithaca as the first city to make a sundae in 1882. Other cities, such as Evanston, Illinois and Two Rivers, claim to have produced the ice-cream in 1880 and 1881.

Doodle’s history

Even though Google has turned the Doodles into a tradition, the official logo is still used on the main homepages and research results. On Google’s site about the doodles, the first different logo designed was for August 30, in 1998. That date was for the Burning Man Festival, a global event.

Since then, each year Google produces even more new logos to surprise anyone who is about to ‘google’ something. As each country has its own holidays and internal events, on some occasions the doodles are exclusive for those specific regions. Even so, anyone can access the drawings on Google’s site.
