Duke basketball
The sports season is a time full of surprises. Even if a team is leading the championship, that does not mean much until it has to face other competitors. Sometimes, a Top 3 favorite to win the championship might lose to someone who is not in the same category. That is what happened to Duke University, which is now out of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament.
Out of the big game
The game which lead to Duke’s disqualification was against the Arizona Wildcats. Duke was amongst the top seeded teams, while Arizona was a fifth-seeded competitor. For the fans and game watchers, Duke’s defeat was a surprise on how this season is going to end.
At first, it did not seem that Duke would lose the match. The team went for the first half in the lead. But, as Arizona started to fight back, the victory was settled on 40-27. As if losing was not enough, Duke lost by a large difference of points.
New decisions to make
The team might have lost, but some players still have their outstanding performances during the games. One of those is Kyrie Irving, a Duke player. Right after the match, coach Mike Krzyzewski was asked about what would happen to Irving’s future, as now he has a decision to make.
Interrupting the question, Krzyzewski said “Let’s not talk about that. I mean, that’s uncalled for right now. Let’s just talk about the game and the beautiful way that Arizona played and not future decisions. You can call my office later, you know — how would we do that, Ken? You think I just grabbed him and talked to him about that? I just hugged him because he’s crying. I’m not talking to him about him going pro. Those things will happen in due course.”
