Cougar town episodes cut to 15

As televised series are usually contracted for a set of episodes based on the regular quantity included in a season, when the demand is less than that people can get offended. This is the case of Courtney Cox’s ‘Cougar Town’, produced by ABC, which had an order for only 15 episodes. Besides reducing the amount of episodes, which usually are 22, there is no official date for when these episodes will be aired.

Television’s Real Drama

The problem when networks decide to cut the series production is that it usually involves other series and not just one specific case. Alongside ‘Cougar Town’, ‘Community’ is also one of those that have already been announced to be shelved during the traditional mid-season schedule. While ‘Community’ soon enough became the new cult hit, ‘Cougar Town’ was also a favorite.

Even though it should all be professional, ‘Cougar Town’s creator and runner, Bill Lawrence, demonstrated no effort at all in hiding his lack of content with the announcement of the cutback. Just as everything else that happens in the celebrity world, Lawrence decided to publicize his unhappiness on Twitter, thinking that only those who follow him would end up knowing what was said.

Reactions From All Sides

A sequence of posts made by Lawrence proves his feelings, such as: “no, Cougar Town isn’t cancelled. Yes, I’m mad. We will see you soon, I’m sure (I know when/where but can’t say). Might speak my mind…”, and “look, we will be back, and the show will be on for a long time (Parks and Rec style). Only people hurt by reduced order – crew and fans,” or “will vent later. Must go edit episode that will be on in… sometime. Enjoy Celebrity Wife Swap on ABC. Your kids should watch.”

Considering the ‘Community’ case exclusively, the reaction mainly came from its public, instead of the producers. The ‘Community’ viewers are considered a rabid fan base and are all connected to new technologies, one of them being Tumblr, and soon enough began protesting online to try and convince NBC of keeping ‘Community’ on schedule. However, the answer was that at some point the show would be back, but no specific date was given.
