Casey Anthony trial takes place on may 24

After the missing of Caylee Anthony was officially announced by her grandparents in 2008 the suspicion of the girl have been murdered by her own mother, Casey Anthony, grew as it was not her who reported the disappearance. Today, May 24, the trial to decide whether Casey is guilty or not is taking place in Orlando.

Defendant’s Arguments

The version presented by Casey’s defense attorney is that Caylee died on June 18, 2008, at the family’s pool. The date informed is weeks before anyone reported that the child was gone. “How in the world can a mother wait 30 days before ever reporting her child missing, that’s insane, that’s bizarre..the answer is actually relatively simple. She never was missing. Caylee Anthony died on June 16, 2008 when she drowned in her family’s swimming pool,” reasoned the defense attorney, Jose Baez.

In order to explain why Casey would have hidden the fact that her daughter was dead, even from her own parents, is a behavioral pattern. The defense claims that Casey herself was a victim of child abuse by her father and her brother and, the same way she hid her family dysfunctions, she hid the fact that her daughter had passed away.

Prosecution’s Sequence Of Facts

On the other hand, prosecutor Linda Drane Burdick defends the theory that Casey is in fact Caylee’s murderer. Based on the first information that it was the grandmother who reported the disappearance and on cell phone records, Burdick managed to build a time line to report Casey’s whereabouts while her daughter was missing. As Casey was spending her days during the month of her daughter’s absence by leading a regular life, with friends, shopping and boyfriends, the main question made by Burdick was: “where is Caylee Marie Anthony?”

“Caylee Marie Anthony was not kidnapped. No one else benefited from the death of Caylee Marie Anthony. Caylee’s death allowed Casey Anthony to live the good life, and at the end of this case you will have no problem deciding that Casey Anthony killed her daughter. Casey Anthony is guilty of murder in the first degree,” argued Burdick.
