Black Hawk gains attention as stealth chopper

A military operation is not just about aiming and attacking your opponent. A series of tactical strategies have to be thought through and, when possible, trained as a way of avoiding as many possible mistakes. Besides thinking of what can be expected, a military operation also has to have in mind what could go differently that they imagined.

Concerns About Military Secrecy

During the operation that killed Osama bin Laden, the team responsible in capturing him, the Navy SEALS, had to destroy an American chopper as their last act before leaving the Pakistan region. That measure was needed because the chopper is an exclusive creation for the American army, as it is a stealth helicopter.

The fear of the American government is that other chopper developers, as China, would try to steal the remains of the American chopper to reproduce some of the technical building processes. ABC news consultant, Richard Clarke, said “There are probably people in the Pentagon tonight who are very concerned that pieces of the helicopter may be, even now, on their way to China, because we know that China is trying to make stealth aircraft.”

Exclusive Operation Material

The stealth helicopter had to be left behind at the first place because it was already damaged. Before the Osama bin Laden’s operation, the existence of the Black Hawk stealth helicopter was only a rumor about what kind of equipment the American army had in stock. The mission of capturing and killing the Arab terrorist was the first time ever to be out in public.

Once photos of the helicopter leaked on the internet, a representative of the Lexington Institute, Daniel Goure, said “One of the things that really stands out is they have a little disk over the motors, which is meant to baffle the sound and deny radar signature.” The most probable reason for concerns about the sound is providing a shorter period of time in which the helicopter is heard and identified, when the team manages to invade the mission’s target.
