Alvin Ailey with new tour and direction

Once different styles of artistic demonstrations and productions began to gain the public’s confidence, several companies managed to take their shows, whether musicals or dance, to as many places as possible. The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater is in the middle of its latest tour around the North American country and will perform in 24 cities this season.

Company’s Importance To Society

The company’s name is a reference and an honor to the late American choreographer baptized just as equally. Actually, the original Alvin Ailey founded the dance company as a way of allowing his main artistic style, modern dance, together with the inclusion of African-American descendents at a time when they were still neglected by society because of the black skin color.

On Thursday 12 the Alvin Ailey will perform at the Hanover Theater, which is located in the region of Worcester. At the moment, the team has a total of 30 dancers that will present this season’s tour. Designated artistic director is Robert Battle, who will take over the leadership from Judith Jamison on July 1. The reason for the change in the company’s structure is Jamison’s retirement after 21 years serving not only as director, but also as a dancer herself.

Transition Of Commands

Although the official modification will only be made in July, Jamison’s last production was presented in January. As a natural consequence of her good work with the Alvin Ailey, American First Lady Michele Obama talked about taking her daughters to the director’s last showing “I want them to see Judith’s gifts on display, because I want them to witness the grace and the beauty that stirs our souls and connects us to each other like nothing else can.”

At the same time, Battle was informed of the opportunity to work with the team last year. Even with an advanced heads up, Battle said that one year was not enough to learn all of the details of one of the best dance companies today. “When I first heard about the year-long prep, I thought, ‘Oh, my goodness. That’s a long time.’ But now it seems like just yesterday,” said Battle about the deadline to be in charge of the Alvin Ailey.
